FAQS

Questions, answered gently

Everything you might be wondering before reaching out. If your question isn't here, just ask.

What kind of therapy do you offer?

I offer individual psychotherapy for adults, drawing from a range of approaches that include person-centred, somatic-experiencing, ACT, and emotion-focused modalities. At my core, I am a therapist that believes in the wisdom and data emotions provide us. Therapy with me is collaborative and flexible, always shaped by your unique needs and at a pace that feels right for you. While no two sessions are the same, my work consistently centres on helping you reconnect with yourself and your body to deepen your self-understanding, and move gently towards healing and growth while being in alignment with your values.

What is somatic-focused psychotherapy?

Somatic-focused therapy recognizes that healing doesn't just happen in our thoughts, it also happens in the body. Our nervous systems hold stories, patterns, and responses shaped by past experiences. In our work together, we may bring gentle awareness to bodily sensations, notice where emotions live in the body, and use that connection to support emotion regulation, release, and integration. You are always in charge of this process, and we will only move into somatic work if and when it feels supportive and safe for you.

What can I expect in my first session?

First sessions are about beginning, not rushing! We'll spend time getting to know each other, exploring what brings you to therapy, and discussing what you hope for from our work together. I'll also go over confidentiality and its limits, clinic policies, and answer any questions you may have about the process. Most importantly, the first session is a space for you to show up as you are, with no expectations, so we can start creating a foundation of trust and safety in our work together.

Do you have experience working with Queer-identified or BIPOC clients?

Yes. Many of the individuals I work with are queer-identified, and I strive to be a genuine ally. I have pursued ongoing training in gender and sexual diversity, and am committed to offering affirming care that honours your lived experience. Whether we share identities or differ, I approach each therapeutic relationship with cultural humility. I recognize the complex ways in which race, culture, and identity shape each person's story. I see it as a privilege when someone entrusts me with their mental health, and I hold that responsibility with care and respect.

What payments do you accept?

I accept e-transfer and credit card payments through Jane at this time. Payment is due at the end of each session, and receipts are provided for your records or insurance submissions.

What is your cancellation policy?

Solara Psychotherapy requires 72 hours' notice to cancel or reschedule your appointment. Cancellations with less than 72 hours' notice will be charged the full session fee, unless there is an unavoidable emergency. This policy helps me maintain consistency and fairness in my practice.

Can I claim your services through my health insurance provider?

Many extended health insurance plans cover psychotherapy services provided by a Registered Psychotherapist in Ontario. I recommend checking with your provider to confirm your specific coverage. I provide detailed receipts that you can submit for reimbursement, but I do not bill insurance providers directly.

How much do sessions cost?

My fee for individual psychotherapy is $150 per 50-minute session.

What can I expect once I reach out for services?

Once you reach out, I will get back to you to offer a brief phone or video consultation, free of charge, to ensure I am a good fit for your needs and feel confident in my ability to support you. From there, we can schedule your first session. I aim to make this process smooth and welcoming — whether you're ready to begin right away, or just gathering information, you'll never be rushed or pressured.
